Amazonsaurus is the only dinosaur that has been given a full scientific name from the Itapecuru Formation in Brazil.1
It lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 125 to 100 million years ago.1
The fossils were found in rocks that were once a floodplain near a river delta.1
Amazonsaurus belonged to a group of sauropods called diplodocoids, which includes some of the longest dinosaurs ever.1
Scientists think Amazonsaurus was about 12 meters (40 feet) long and weighed around 5,000 kilograms (11,000 pounds).1
The name Amazonsaurus comes from the Amazon region where it was found, and the Greek word for lizard.1
