Kol
Kol was a fast-running, meat-eating dinosaur that lived in what is now Mongolia about 75 million years ago. It is known from just one complete foot, which tells us it was a speedy hunter about twice the size of its relative Shuvuuia.1

Kol is known from only one complete right foot, which is unusual because its relative Shuvuuia is known from many skeletons.1
The foot bones of Kol show an extreme arctometatarsalian condition, where the middle metatarsal is pinched between the outer bones, an adaptation for fast running.1
Kol lived about 75 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period.1
The name Kol means 'foot' in Mongolian, and ghuva means 'beautiful', so the full name means 'beautiful foot'.1
Kol was one of the largest members of the alvarezsaurid group, estimated at 1.8 to 2.4 meters (5.9 to 7.9 feet) long and 20 to 24 kilograms (44 to 53 pounds).1
Some scientists think Kol might not be an alvarezsaurid but instead related to Avimimus within the oviraptorosaurs, but this is still debated.1

- Kol was named by Alan H. Turner, Sterling J. Nesbitt, and Mark A. Norell in 2009 based on a single foot (specimen IGM 100/2011) found at Ukhaa Tolgod in Mongolia.21

- Scientists are not sure whether Kol belongs to the alvarezsaurids or to the oviraptorosaurs, because the only known fossil is a foot.1
