Astigmasaura
Astigmasaura was a long-necked plant-eater that lived in what is now Patagonia, Argentina. It was a rebbachisaurid sauropod, a group of dinosaurs that were medium to large in size and walked on four legs. Astigmasaura lived alongside giant titanosaurs during the Late Cretaceous.51

Astigmasaura is one of the youngest rebbachisaurid dinosaurs ever found, living near the end of the group's existence.1
Its name comes from the Spanish word 'orejano', which means a stray animal without an owner, because it was found in the El Orejano locality.1
The fossil includes an almost complete pelvis and a series of tail vertebrae, which is rare for rebbachisaurids.1
Astigmasaura had tall neural spines on its front tail vertebrae, which helped attach strong muscles.1
It lived in the same time and place as giant titanosaurs, but was a smaller, more lightly built sauropod.1

?How big was Astigmasaura?
It was about 18 metres (59 feet) long and weighed more than 10 tonnes (22,000 pounds).2
?What did Astigmasaura eat?
It was a plant-eater that ate low-growing plants, like ferns and cycads, using its long neck to reach them.3
?When did Astigmasaura live?
It lived about 95 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period.2
?Where was Astigmasaura found?
Its fossils were found in the Huincul Formation of Neuquén Province, Argentina, near an oil field called El Orejano.4

- Scientists are still debating exactly how Astigmasaura is related to other rebbachisaurids, and whether it was a more basal or more advanced member of the group.1
