Asfaltovenator
Asfaltovenator was a big meat-eating dinosaur that lived in what is now Argentina. It was about as long as a school bus and had a skull full of sharp teeth. Scientists think it might be one of the oldest relatives of Allosaurus.21

Asfaltovenator lived about 179 to 178 million years ago, during the Middle Jurassic period.1
The only known fossil of Asfaltovenator is a nearly complete skull and much of the skeleton, including neck and back bones, shoulders, and forelimbs.1
Asfaltovenator had a mix of features seen in different groups of meat-eating dinosaurs, which makes it hard for scientists to place it exactly on the family tree.2
Its name honors the road workers who helped paleontologists dig up the fossil.1
Asfaltovenator had 4 teeth in the front of its upper jaw and 13 teeth in each upper cheek bone.2
