Huashanosaurus was named in 2025, making it one of the newest dinosaurs discovered.1

Its fossils were first found in 2002 by a local teacher named Jian Qin while he was searching for stones near a river.1

The dinosaur's name honors Huashan Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for ancient rock art.1

Huashanosaurus is only the second eusauropod dinosaur ever found in the Guangxi region of China.1

Scientists think Huashanosaurus lived during the Early to Middle Jurassic Period, about 174 to 161 million years ago.1

The fossils include a foot claw, finger bones, and parts of the arm and leg, but no skull has been found.1
