Yimenosaurus is known from at least 10 partial skeletons and a skull, so scientists know quite a lot about it.2
Its name honors Yang Zhongjian, the father of Chinese paleontology, who was also called C.C. Young.1
Yimenosaurus had 4 teeth in its upper front jaw, 17 to 18 teeth in each upper cheek, and about 23 teeth in each lower jaw.3
The first fossils of Yimenosaurus were found in 1987 by a team that included a research assistant named Xingyong Zhang.3
Yimenosaurus lived about 195 to 190 million years ago, during the Early Jurassic period.2
Its skull was quite delicate and long, with large, elliptical nostrils and a triangular opening in front of the eye.3
