Fun facts

1

Shixinggia lived about 70 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period.1

2

No skull was found, but scientists recovered many bones from the rest of the body, including the legs and hips.1

3

The only known fossil was collected by the Beijing Natural History Museum in 1995.2

4

Shixinggia had a large air hole on its thigh bone and a smaller one on its shin bone, which are not seen in other oviraptorosaurs.2

5

It was a fairly advanced oviraptorosaur, meaning it was more bird-like than some of its relatives.1

6

The name Shixinggia comes from Shixing County in Guangdong, China, where the fossil was found.1
