Yehuecauhceratops is known from only two partial skeletons, including a nearly complete skull bone called the squamosal.1
It lived about 72 million years ago in a coastal marsh and floodplain environment.1
This dinosaur was a centrosaurine, a group of horned dinosaurs that often had fancy frills.1
Yehuecauhceratops shared its home with two other horned dinosaurs: Agujaceratops and Coahuilaceratops.1
Its name comes from the Nahuatl word 'yehuecauh' meaning 'ancient' and the Greek 'ceratops' meaning 'horned face'.1
The species name 'mudei' honors the Museo del Desierto (MUDE) in Mexico, where the fossils are kept.1
