Hexinlusaurus was first thought to be a species of Yandusaurus, but scientists later gave it its own name in 2005.1
Its name honors Professor He Xin-Lu, who first described the fossils.1
The only known fossils include a nearly complete skull and some bones from the rest of the body.1

- The fossils were found in the Lower Shaximiao Formation in Dashanpu, China. They were first named Yandusaurus multidens in 1983, but in 2005 scientists Barrett, Butler, and Knoll gave it the new name Hexinlusaurus.1
