Aegyptosaurus
Aegyptosaurus was a huge, long-necked plant-eater that lived in what is now Africa about 95 million years ago. It stomped through mangrove forests and tidal flats, munching on leaves and ferns. This giant sauropod was one of the few big plant-eaters in its neighborhood, which was full of fierce meat-eaters like Spinosaurus.2

All the original Aegyptosaurus bones were destroyed in a bombing raid during World War II in 1944. Only a few fragments from other specimens survive today.2
Aegyptosaurus lived alongside Spinosaurus, the giant fish-eating dinosaur, and the huge meat-eater Carcharodontosaurus.2
Scientists think Aegyptosaurus was about 15 metres long and weighed around 7 tonnes, as big as a bus.21
It was named by German paleontologist Ernst Stromer in 1932, 17 years after the fossils were sent to Munich.2
The Bahariya Formation in Egypt, where Aegyptosaurus was found, was a wetland with mangroves, tidal flats, and many waterways.2
