Nicorhynchus is one of the largest toothed pterosaurs, second only to Tropeognathus. Its skull could have been up to 75 cm (30 inches) long.1
The tip of its snout was shaped like a boxy rosette, wider than the rest of the jaw, and its front teeth pointed straight forward.1
Its name comes from the Old English word 'nicor', meaning a water dragon or knucker.1
Nicorhynchus lived about 105 to 92.5 million years ago, during the Cretaceous Period.1
Scientists first thought Nicorhynchus was a species of Coloborhynchus, but in 2020 it got its own genus.12
The two species are Nicorhynchus capito from England and Nicorhynchus fluviferox from Morocco.1
