1

Triunfosaurus is known from only a few bones: three tail vertebrae, a right hip bone (ischium), and some chevrons (bones under the tail).2

2

Its fossils were found in the Rio Piranhas Formation, which was deposited by ancient rivers and streams.2

3

Triunfosaurus lived at a time when the South Atlantic Ocean was just starting to open, separating South America from Africa.2

4

The species name leonardii honors Giuseppe Leonardi, a paleontologist who studied dinosaur footprints in northeastern Brazil.2

5

Before Triunfosaurus was found, most titanosaur fossils in Brazil came from the Late Cretaceous. This one is much older, from the Early Cretaceous.2
