Fun facts

1

Ahshislesaurus had 45 tooth positions in its jaw, more than its relative Kritosaurus which had 42.2

2

Its name comes from the Ah-shi-sle-pah Wilderness in New Mexico, where its fossils were found.1

3

This dinosaur lived about 75 million years ago during the Campanian age of the Late Cretaceous.24

4

Ahshislesaurus was a flat-headed hadrosaur, meaning it did not have a bony crest on its skull.1

5

Its teeth were arranged into tight, interlocking dental batteries that were constantly replaced throughout its life.2

6

The only known skull of Ahshislesaurus was originally thought to belong to a different dinosaur called Kritosaurus navajovius.1

Still debated
Scientists are still debating whether Ahshislesaurus and another flat-headed hadrosaur, Naashoibitosaurus, form a new group of duck-billed dinosaurs.1
