Arenysaurus
Arenysaurus was a duck-billed dinosaur that lived in what is now Spain, about 66 million years ago. It was one of the last non-bird dinosaurs before the big extinction. This plant-eater had a flat, toothy beak and maybe a hollow crest on its head.13

Fun facts
Arenysaurus is one of the most complete and best-dated dinosaur fossils from the very end of the Cretaceous period.1
Its fossils were found in a small village called ArΓ©n, and the townspeople helped the scientists dig them out.1
Arenysaurus belonged to a group called lambeosaurines, which often had hollow, decorative crests on their skulls.1
The original bones are kept in a museum built in the town of ArΓ©n, along with a replica showing how the skeleton was found.1
Scientists think Arenysaurus was a rather early member of the lambeosaurine family, and it was closely related to dinosaurs from Asia.2
This dinosaur lived about 66 million years ago, right at the end of the Cretaceous, and died out in the big extinction event.1

Most asked questions about Arenysaurus
?How big was Arenysaurus?
Arenysaurus was a medium-sized hadrosaur, measuring about 5 to 6 metres (16 to 20 feet) long and weighing about 1 metric ton (1.1 short tons).1
?What did Arenysaurus eat?
Arenysaurus was a plant-eater, as it was a hadrosaur, or duck-billed dinosaur. It had a flat, toothy beak for chewing plants.1
?When did Arenysaurus live?

?Where was Arenysaurus found?
Arenysaurus was found in the Tremp Formation of the Pyrenees Mountains in Spain, near the village of ArΓ©n. The townspeople helped the scientists dig out the fossils.1
