Fun facts

1

Batyrosaurus is named after batyrs, which are Kazakh heroic knights.1

2

It lived during the Santonian to Campanian ages of the Late Cretaceous, about 85 to 72 million years ago.3

3

The shape of its inner ear semicircular canals suggests Batyrosaurus was an agile biped, meaning it could run on two legs.1

4

Its beak had a series of small, cone-shaped bumps along the top edge, which helped it grip plants.1

5

Batyrosaurus is a basal hadrosauroid, meaning it was an early relative of the duck-billed dinosaurs.1

6

The only known fossil of Batyrosaurus was found in greenish-gray shales with pink flecks, about 2 meters below purple shales.1

7

It was described in 2012 by paleontologist Pascal Godefroit and his team.3
